Kansai Airport (KIX) Tax Refund: Same Day Only, Hours & Cash Counters

From Nov 1, 2026 you pay full price in shops and get the tax back after a customs check at KIX. The check is only possible on your departure day, and it must happen before you check your bags.

Flying in from a domestic flight?

Do not check your tax-free goods through at the first airport. Carry them on, or collect your bag at KIX, so you can do the customs check at KIX on the day you leave Japan (KIX).

Early flight?

Kiosks run 24 hours, but if you get a red result you need customs staff, who are there from check-in opening. Allow extra time.

Other tips

Have every item from each receipt with you — one missing item fails the whole receipt (JTA, Customs).

Shops after immigration (duty-free) need no refund procedure.
