eSIM vs Pocket WiFi in Japan

Short answer: if your phone supports eSIM and only you need data, an eSIM is simpler — nothing to carry or return. If your phone has no eSIM, or several people or devices share one connection, a rented pocket WiFi is the safer choice.

Free Wi-Fi first

Major international airports (Narita, Haneda, Kansai, New Chitose, Centrair, Fukuoka) have free Wi-Fi in the terminals, and most major city hotels offer Wi-Fi; small ryokan and rural inns may not (JNTO). Free public hotspots can be patchy and slow.

Quick answers

Is eSIM or pocket WiFi better for Japan?

eSIM: nothing to carry or return, but your phone must support eSIM. Pocket WiFi: works with any Wi-Fi device and can be shared, but you must carry, charge and return it. JNTO calls renting pocket Wi-Fi the safest option for guaranteed access across Japan.

Can I cancel a JAPAN&GLOBAL eSIM?

The provider's product page says cancellations, refunds and changes are not possible (except during compensation campaigns). Check your phone supports eSIM before buying.
