Before You Go to teamLab Planets or teamLab Borderless
Short answer: buy a dated, timed ticket online first — Planets sells no tickets on site, and Borderless sells on site only at a higher price while they last. At Planets you walk barefoot through knee-deep water, so wear clothes you can roll up.
Which is which
- Planets — Toyosu; open until the end of 2027. Water and garden artworks, barefoot.
- Borderless — Azabudai Hills; permanent. "A museum without a map"; no maps are handed out.
Hours and closed days (official, as of Nov 4, 2026)
- Planets: 8:00–22:00 (Dec 31–Jan 2: 8:00–20:00); last entry 1 hour before closing. Closed Thu Nov 5, Thu Dec 3, Thu Jan 14. "Body of Waves" under maintenance Fri Nov 6.
- Borderless: 8:30–21:00; open until 22:00 on Nov 5, 6, 9, 12, 13 and Dec 26–30; closes 17:00 on Jan 26. Last entry 1 hour before closing. Closed Tue Nov 24, Tue Dec 8, Wed Jan 13, Tue Jan 19.
Tickets (official)
- Dated and timed; they can sell out. Adult prices are dynamic — Borderless lists adults from ¥3,400, Planets lists an entrance pass at ¥3,800; check your date.
- No cancellations or refunds. Tickets bought on the official site can change date/time up to 3 times, until 2 hours before entry. Tickets from other sellers follow that seller's rules.
- No re-entry at either venue. Reselling is prohibited at Borderless.
- Late? Planets says you can still enter the same day within opening hours (ask staff).
- Borderless may ask for ID at entry; 13–17 tickets may need a student ID.
What trips people up
- Planets is wet: shoes and socks off in the locker area; water can reach knee height. Mirrored floors — free rental shorts (XS–6L). If clothes get wet, you must change or use rental towels.
- Bags: no personal belongings in the Planets artwork spaces; free lockers 23×34×37 cm. Larger suitcases are wire-locked in the stroller area. Borderless: free lockers; items over 50 cm and food are not allowed.
- Photos: allowed at both, but no flash and no tripods, monopods or selfie sticks of 30 cm or more.
- Light: both have strong flashing lights and dark areas.
Getting there (official)
- Planets: 3 min from Shin-Toyosu Station (Yurikamome, Exit 1A); 10 min from Toyosu Station (Yurakucho Line, Exit 7). The Toei bus To-05-2 from Tokyo Station/Ginza is heavily congested, teamLab says — use other transport. No parking at the venue.
- Borderless: 2 min from Kamiyacho Station (Hibiya Line, Exit 5); 6 min from Roppongi-itchome (Namboku Line, Exit 4), via an underground passage.
