Before You Go to Chureito Pagoda (Arakurayama Sengen Park)

Short answer: take the Fujikyu Line to Shimoyoshida Station and walk (about 10 min to the park, about 25 min to the pagoda), then climb 398 steps to the deck. It is in Fujiyoshida, not Kawaguchiko; do not drive to the pagoda plaza.

Hours, tickets, time slots

• Hours: listed as 24 hours by Fujiyoshida's official tourist guide. Night illumination in October–November: 17:00–21:50 (times may change).
• Tickets: no admission ticket is described on the official pages.
• Spring time slots: during cherry season (2026: April 1–17) the observation deck used a time-slot system with expected waits of about 1–3 hours. Outside that period, no slot system is described.

What trips people up

• 398 steps ("Sakuya-hime stairs") up to the observation deck.
• Crowds: Fujiyoshida City says the plaza in front of the pagoda is very crowded because of rising visitor numbers, and that traffic is especially heavy on weekends, in cherry season (late March–early May) and autumn leaves (late October–early December). JNTO notes November leaves as a highlight.
• Residents live here: the city asks visitors not to enter residential areas or photograph people without permission, and not to park on nearby roads. It cancelled the 2026 cherry festival because of over-tourism.
• Toilets: available at the park. The city asks bus groups not to use the toilets inside Shimoyoshida Station.

Getting there (official)

• Train: Fujikyu Railway Line to Shimoyoshida Station. About 10 minutes on foot to the park (city / JNTO), about 25 minutes to the pagoda (tourist guide).
• Car: four city lots — P1 (88 cars, ¥1,500 per 6 h), P2 (38, ¥1,000), P3 (35, ¥1,000), P4 (21, ¥1,500). P1 fills first in leaf season; the city recommends P2–P4 (5–10 min walk). No parking on nearby roads; don't drive to the pagoda plaza.
• Tour buses: cannot reach the park; drop-off only in front of Shimoyoshida Station.

Not confirmed by an official source, so left out: chance of seeing Mt Fuji on a given day, lockers at Shimoyoshida Station, tripod/drone rules, whether parking takes cards. Check on site.
